Travel Scope

I’m thinking of getting myself a travel scope for when I go away on holidays.

It needs to be small enough so that it can be carried as hand luggage on a plane.

Has anyone any suggestions?

I am probably going to buy this variant from TS: Photo mount Astrotrac

This version uses a photo tripod soon for travel and fast setup. It won’t carry a scope I think, but it will make it possible to use a camera with a good lens.

The more expensive mount they have on the web case (Astrotrac Travel System) seems to be a good choice for travelling, but it is probably not the cheapest solution available.

And then you have to get a telescope too 🙂

Hello Helge, thanks for your suggestion.

I was thinking about getting a refractor telescope that would fit onto an ordinary photo-tripod.

Possibly 70mm f6 that could fit into a flight bag with a few accories

I would put the tripod in with the hold luggage.

Many 80 mm f/6 and smaller refractors can be bought with a small suitcase which is airline cabin friendly. The mount is likely not as delicate, so you could ship that with your regular suitcase.

There is also something like the Meade ETX series.
