BRIGHT NOVA IN MESSIER 31

T. A. Rector (U. Alaska, Anchorage report on ATEL 10955 their discovery of a
bright (B~16.0) nova in Messier 31 on a 240s CCD image of 2017 Nov. 12.103UT
using the WIYN 0.9m telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory.
The nova is located at:
RA 0h 42m 43.28s, DEC +41d 17′ 15.2″ (2000), which is approximately 66″ N
and 12″ W of the centre of M31.
The nova was seen on successive images and no minor planet is known at this
position. The nova was not visible during observations taken the previous
night of 2017 Nov. 11.265UT down to B~19. Continued photometric monitoring
and spectroscopic observations are encouraged.
