      Hi!
I just bought a meade ext-70at. Is this a good beginner scope? If not is there any accessories i can get to make it better?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Well for starters, you could get some other eyepieces or a barlow lens to enhance magnification.

        Cheers.

          Thanks!

Actually it does come with a 2x Barlow and a 9mm and 20 mm Plossl. And I´ve read that the meade plossl lenses are quite decent. I s this true?

The most important accessories to start out with (from my experience) has nothing to do with the scope it self. I would spend some money on hot clothes and boots, my wife is very understanding and bought me some Sorel boots, and on the cold winter nights I would never go glasing at the stars without. Might not be what you were expecting, but that would be my advice 😉

              A planisphere is also useful

Welcome to this forum, Nuno. You’re living in Arendal I see. I lived there too for a year until this summer. So I know the area a little. Great town, but too many ticks for my taste.

Your nearest astronomy club is Astronomiforeningen i Agder (AiA) in Kristiansand, and if you have a car I’d recommend becoming a member there. It’s the best way to learn new things when you’re a beginner. And you get to meet interesting people too.

AiA’s chairman is Lewis Houck, who lives in Risør. He’s of american heritage but has lived in Norway for many years. He speaks both english/american and norwegian. If I were you, I’d contact him and perhaps visit him in Risør. He’s a great guy and likes to have visitors.

So, my “accessory” advice would be to make contacts and friends who also do stargazing.

Thanks for the advice you guys! IT IS really cold outside……-12 right now. I would like to get in contact with people, but i don´t have a car, although risør isn´t as far as kristiansand it is still too far for me…..I wouldn´t mind trying out some other peoples telescopes, just get a better feel for it and learn new things from other astronomy lovers(and astrophysics). I hope this was a good purchase, all i read about it was very positive, but a bit out of date(2005).You guys really think i´m well served with this meade?

Thanks for the warm welcome and prompt advice.
